Doctor Cristol is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist, specializing in diseases of the eye. He has been in practice for over 30 years, with 15 of those as full-time faculty in the Ophthalmology Department of Temple University School of Medicine. Doctor Cristol graduated from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1970, and spent his first post-graduate year in general medicine and surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital. After 2 years as a General Medical Officer in the US Navy, he returned to complete his Ophthalmology residency at The Scheie Eye Institute, Presbyterian-University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. He continued his surgical training as a Fellow in cornea and external eye diseases at Temple University Hospital, under Guy H. Chan, MD. He remained at Temple as Assistant Professor until Dr. Chan’s retirement. Since then he has been an associate physician at Soll Eye in Northeast Philadelphia, until his departure from that group in June, 2010.
Doctor Cristol has held high office at the Philadelphia County Medical Society, where he continues to serve, since 1985. He is a delegate from Philadelphia County Medical Society to the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and was a delegate from Pennsylvania to the AMA House of Delegates for 10 years. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology and has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology since 1980.
Doctor Cristol grew up in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, the son of David S Cristol, MD (deceased), Chief of Urology at Jeanes Hospital for 40 years. He is married with two grown sons who live in New York City.
